Baking a Battenburg!

The summer holidays will always mean moments of boredom for small people. It was our lovely Abby’s (our Nanny, we call her Abby as it’s short for the Spanish for grandma… long story short) birthday yesterday and she’s coming to stay tonight. We thought we’d make her a cake and it killed two birds as it kept little G occupied for an afternoon.

We decided to embark on Battenburg of all cakes as it’s little G’s favourite. We used a Hairy Bikers recipe that I found on BBC Food.

We made it! After dramas with too much red food colouring and crazy marzipan rolling this is what we came up with!

  1. I have always wanted to make a Battenburg cake but always chicken out the last minute because I don’t want to roll the marzipan! And the slicing and coloring and whatnot. Great effort it looks yummy! 🙂
