I’ve been away for just over a week from my little blog and I’ve missed it! I had scheduled a few posts so I wasn’t totally silent but I’ve missed all the blogger chats and constant Twitter! But, I’m back now and I thought I’d share a few little photos of my trip to Tokyo.
It was amazing but so tiring. Jet lag has got me and I keep waking up really early and then crashing in the late afternoon because I have no idea what the time is! I’m very glad to be home, and we only just made it out of Narita airport because a snow storm was starting, we were actually the last flight out of Tokyo, which is quite scary because I’d spent literally every last Yen and I wouldn’t have been able to survive all Tom Hanks in the Terminal!
On the first day we arrived and essentially went straight to a traditional Japanese wedding at a temple in Harajuku. It was amazing to see them parade around the temple, really beautiful but so surreal. We’d literally just done an all nighter on a British Airways flight and about 24 hours of travelling and were plonked in the middle of a city. Bit crazy. The food was such an experience, it was difficult to know what to order but when you order right, it’s amazing, but I have definitely gone off miso soup and soy sauce but developed a massive love for sushi. I knew I liked it before, but it’s obviously not the same here as it is in sushi bars in Japan. They hide wasabi everywhere though, which I’m not massively into. Also, on a side note, McDonalds in Japan is SO much better than in the UK. Don’t know how they do it, but it’s so much better quality. the customer service over all in Japan is ridiculous, everyone is so nice and helpful and polite. People are almost too polite to the level that we’re not used to over here in Britain it’s crazy.
We had the amazing opportunity to visit Marc Jacobs Japan head office with their Marketing Director, he’s actually just left but he managed to get us in and we had a preview of the S/S14 Collection and a talk from him and another colleague. Really inspirational and we all now definitely want to work for MJ because they get 95% sample sales and it seems like such a great company to work for. We investigated all the different shopping areas of Tokyo, Omotesando Hills, Roppongi, Ginza, Harajuku, Asakusa, Shibuyu and we were staying in Shinjuku. It was just crazy. I hope you like my snaps I’m sharing with you. It was a crazy opportunity and I’d love to go back and see more of Japan but I definitely couldn’t live there, I missed my cup of tea too much & Britishness!
Bad Points/Tricky Things:
Ordering the wrong thing and getting a shock!
Smoking inside. Seems so prehistoric that there isn’t a smoking ban in Japan, grim.
Too hot metro, but that’s like everywhere!
Serious language barrier, obviously I expected this but it really does get quite difficult sometimes. Not necessarily a bad point but tricky.
