Revolution Hockley Nottingham Review

This weekend I was invited down to Revolution Hockley to give their new street-food inspired ‘Revolution Kitchen’ menu a try. We all know ‘Vodka Revs’ as the place of 1000 different types of vodka and your average high-end pub food with 50% off Mondays. These guys are breaking out of the mould and actually giving their menu some extra thought. This new menu is based on the ‘foodie scenes of New York and San Francisco’ and we all know street-food is seriously on trend right now. I was excited to give it a go, and *spoiler alert* – I was really impressed!

To start, Luke had the awesome Dough Dogs – little Bockwurst sausage hotdogs wrapped in dough served with mustard & ketchup. He said they were nice, if a little bit salty and a little bit small, but he enjoyed them. I had a bite and thought they were really yummy, plus I think they look really cute but would have looked nicer if served with a garnish or on a smaller platter or a hotdog shaped dish?

I picked the Butterflied Breaded Shrimp – prawns breaded and fried; served with big easy mayo. Whatever ‘big easy mayo’ actually is – it’s magical. Someone get me the recipe right now, either that or a giant vat of the stuff. It’s amazing. The breaded prawns reminded me of scampi, they were awesome, I really enjoyed the starter and it set me up for the rest of the meal.

For our main meals, Luke chose the amazing sounding (and looking) Triple Overload Burger – this killer guy consists of a ‘beef burger, buttermilk fried chicken, pulled pork, smoked cheddar, triple brioche, armageddon sauce, garlic sauce, viper fries, BBQ crackling puffs.’ Those crackling puffs being essentially BBQ flavoured Rice Krispies! This was ‘really nice’ but he thought the chicken section was a bit ‘random’ and didn’t really work with the rest of the burger, so he ate it separately, but all in all he really enjoyed this burger. And my boyfriend knows his burgers.

I had the Brooklyn Chicken Burger, this was buttermilk fried chicken, streaky bacon, smoked cheddar, chipotle sauce, big easy mayo, fried pickles. The little fried pickles were amazing, I really liked them, they’d be an awesome little starter on their own with some dips. The chicken was so good too, it was really crispy but not dry in the slightest – this was a great burger. The only thing I’d say is that I like my burgers to be quite saucy so I added extra coleslaw and mayo to mine, I think it could be served with more sauce already in it. Luke’s burger was super saucy because it was beefy and full of pulled pork etc so I was a bit jealous!

Next up, we were almost too full but we powered through, dessert! The menu was pretty average, your brownies, cheesecake, ice-cream etc. But then I spied the ‘Fluffwiches’ and I decided that I had to go for the Banoffee Fluffwich. I wasn’t disappointed, it was amazing. The outside was like waffley-pancakey dough with a whole load of marshmallow, caramel and banana chucked inside. I loved it – I bet the chocolate one is amazing too.

Luke had the Chocolate Sundae Mess which was a whole load of yummy-ness packed into a Sundae glass. He was happy with it, that’s for sure. We had a Sundae similar to this at Red’s True BBQ the other week and this one was definitely better – it had more stuff packed into it and a lot less ‘filler’ stuff like whipped cream.

Overall, all the food was a solid 8 out of 10. Another plus for the whole meal was that everything was hot, this means so much for a meal out I think. I hate when a dinner arrives and it’s lukewarm – you have to decide whether to send it back and have it microwaved or to just eat it cold. But, that didn’t happen at all – every course was hot!

A massive thank you to Revolution Hockley for our meal, we’d definitely eat there again. Plus Revs still do their 50% off Mondays – give it a go today, you won’t regret it.
