I’ve always loved fashion and style but have kind of struggled with the classic cliche of having loads of clothes but not actually knowing what to wear mentality. I’m fed up with it now and after watching & reading Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup’s capsule wardrobe videos and posts, I checked out Un-fancy, the blog she got her inspiration from and I decided to give it a go.
I’ve always been fascinated by the capsule wardrobe premise, how people can just have a certain amount of pieces and just rock them over and over in brand new combinations. Basically, you have between 35-40 pieces in your wardrobe that consists of coats, shoes, bottoms, tops and dresses. You don’t obviously include party wear, gym wear, sleep wear and random bits like that. Just literally what you would wear day to day. Here’s how I’m getting on with putting together my first capsule wardrobe, let me know if you’d like to get updates!
I’ve currently got about 33 pieces stated here and I’m still working on it. The pieces I’ve taken out of my wardrobe have either been stored for the spring/summer months or are ready to be sold on eBay.
8 Pairs Of Shoes
Starting from the feet, I’ve got two pairs of ankle boots, my new loves – River Island Brown Suede Boots and ASOS Randall Ankle Boots along with my weather-appropriate UGG Mini Black Boots. I’m a trainers girl at heart so my favourite Adidas Superstars and Classic White Superga are both in there. I’ve also got my leopard print slip-on vans, some black New Balance and some cute pom pom flats from New Look.
5 Jumpers
Obviously this month I’ve worn a couple of Christmas jumpers but these don’t count towards the capsule! I’m a massive fan of a chunky knit and a few of my favourites are this New Look Khaki Hi-Neck Jumper, this New Look Grey Longline Coatigan, Baukjen Lime Sian Roll Neck Jumper, Warehouse Navy Chunky Jumper and I’ve got a favourite pale pink River Island roll neck sweater too.
8 Tops
Bulking up my tops collection are Topshop Oversized Denim Shirt, River Island Breton Top, Marks & Spencer Grey Ribbed Tee, Topshop Black & White Striped Top, French Connection Khaki Collared Top and not pictured are the classic white and black t-shirts of which I have one of each and a thick cotton white shirt. Not counted within capsule wardrobes are plain vest tops that we all wear underneath our sweaters etc, these I keep separately!
2 Bags
Anna doesn’t include bags in her capsule wardrobe but I’ve got two main bags that I use the most on rotation. My Radley Border Backpack is an amazing everyday bag and this Whistles Faux Lizard Clutch is great for the evening but also really nice if I’m just popping out for a coffee.
6 Bottoms
Jeans make up the majority of the ‘bottoms’ section of my wardrobe consisting of 1 pair of French Connection blue skinny jeans, my favourite black ASOS Ridley Ankle Grazer Jeans, some Marks & Spencer Regular Fit Jeans, ASOS Leather Look Leggings and my favourite black dungarees. The only skirt is my Warehouse Leather Skirt!
2 Dresses
Dresses are limited in this capsule wardrobe! The first one is my trusty Primark denim pinafore which goes with so many pieces and is my go-to. The second is this Marks & Spencer Moon Print Dress which is a nice dressy piece but I also find it casual enough for daily wear.
5 Jacket & Coats
I’ve got a really warm Zara navy puffa jacket and a faux leather jacket from Warehouse which are staples in my autumn to winter wardrobe. My favourite buy of this season has to be this Marks & Spencer Black Faux Sheepskin Coat and I also love my Topshop Faux Fur Lined Bomber Jacket, it might be too cold for this on it’s own but I’m planning to layer it up. My favourite Topshop parka will always be a favourite too.
