3 Ideas For Updating Furniture In 2016

Being January, it’s all new year new everything. But, what if you can’t afford to update your house as much as you’d like to? Here comes my three tips for updating furniture on the cheap (and sometimes free!)

IKEA Hacks

I absolutely love a blog called Swoonworthy, run by an awesome girl called Kimberly, her home is literally my dream pad. She’s created an awesome post all about IKEA hacks where she takes classic IKEA items that we all own (because it’s cheap and looks great) and then makes it something a little bit more special with a few design tweaks – usually a lot of gold spray paint, which I love. I’d definitely recommend checking Kim’s blog out for some serious design-spo.

Upcycling

Upcycling is a great way of giving old pieces of furniture new life and it won’t break the bank! All you need is a lick of paint, some sticky back plastic or wallpaper and some imagination. The furniture doesn’t have to be old either as seen above, you can upcycle pretty much anything, age isn’t in the question.

The Anti-Shop

Don’t fancy spending much on new furniture or just hate shopping? Check out this really helpful post that will help you find furniture on the cheap and without the shops! You can check out auctions, eBay, Gumtree and sites like Freecycle as well as the good old skip or house clearances. You can get some serious bargains and sometimes a lot of free goodies that you can spruce up. Charity shops are also a great place to find quirky accessories and glassware. We bought a lot from charity shops when we first moved into our house and it’s such a purse-friendly way of doing things.
