Risley Hall Hotel & Spa Review

Here comes another hotel review for all you keen travellers! This weekend we stayed at the Risley Hall Hotel & Spa as part of a Red Letter Days gift that we received for Christmas and the hotel was so pretty I thought I’d write a little review as it’s a great location for the East Midlands.

The Location

First up, Risley is a super cute little village that’s located about 10 minutes drive from Derby and 20 minutes from Nottingham. It’s the perfect location for exploring this side of the East Midlands. We decided to head here as it was still a getaway for us from Nottingham but it wasn’t a million miles away and there wasn’t a 2-3 hour drive like there usually is with our mini breaks. Alton Towers is also only an hour away!

The Hotel & Grounds

Did someone say red carpet? I don’t know if it’s a permanent feature or if they rolled it out especially for me, but it was exciting nonetheless! There are 17 acres of grounds to Risley Hall and the main house itself is stunning as you can see. There’s a pool, jacuzzi, gym and spa facilities as well as a bar and restaurant. I think they have about 17 rooms.

The Room

Our room had a huge bathroom with a bath and a shower as well as a really comfortable bed, four armchairs, a huge wardrobe, a coffee table and a dressing table with the telly. You can probably guess from that how big the room was! It was if anything, a bit too big because I felt that there was still too much empty space in the room. Our room definitely needed a bit of updating, it was great but I think the interior design could do with a bit of a spruce up as a lot of the furniture looked a bit random paired together, for example, there was a modern bed with quite tired armchairs and a sprayed metallic dressing table and chair. It could be 10/10 if they had a decor update, for sure, all the facilities are there and the space is huge.

The Service

We arrived at the hotel and didn’t actually appear to have the reservation that I’d made over the phone which was a bit awkward. They quickly found us a room and booked it all in though but it would have been a bit nicer to have received some complimentary drinks or a discount on spa treatments or something at least offered to us as an apology. Obviously, they couldn’t take any money from the room price as it was already paid for but there was hardly an apology given once the room was sorted out.

The service at breakfast was really good, the cooked breakfasts were made to order which was amazing as usually hotel breakfasts are buffet style for everything. The buffet table was loaded with fresh fruit, pastries, yoghurt and cereal as well as toast and juice.

Overall I’d definitely recommend a stay at Risley Hall if you’re around the Nottingham or Derby area, it was so pretty, the rooms are really comfortable and the service was really good. It’s a far cry from your usual Travelodge or Holiday Inn and I believe the rate was around £60 a night anyway which is great value for money.
