Byron Burger Presents: Cluckosaurus Rex

After two solid weeks of tracking my food and hitting my calories, it was time for a cheat. Cheats are so important to keep yourself sane during diets and because we’re all human and need a burger every once in a while! I don’t feel like I need a ‘cheat meal’ to this sort of proportion every week, (this is serious eating!) but every two weeks I’m definitely going to have something super tasty and head out for a meal.

Last weekend we headed to Byron Burger at the intu centre in Derby (we were planning to go to the cinema too but the food coma got us!) to try their latest special the Cluckosaurus Rex. This is a mish-mash of their menu favourites the B-Rex and the Clucky. This Jurassic World but in burger form. They’ve merged these two beauties together to form a pretty epic burger. The Cluckosaurus Rex is a squishy bun filled with a fried chicken breast, an onion ring, streaky bacon, American cheese, jalapenos, pickles, onions, BBQ sauce and mayonnaise. It is every bit as awesome as it sounds. The BBQ sauce and sweet onions really make this burger super sweet and tangy and the fried chicken is juicy and as crispy as you like. Add some bacon and the all important cheese and you’ve got an amazing burger.

I’ve always been a fan of Byron because I feel like they don’t mess about, they produce yummy burgers that aren’t over the top in size and they’re always interesting and have complementary flavours without going crazy on the toppings. The Cluckosaurus Rex is probably the most packed out burger on their menu but it’s not a nightmare to eat like some big burgers from other restaurants.

I went for the courgette fries as my side as these are just so nice! They’re crispy but still juicy and have the naughty fried taste without being insanely bad for you. Obviously, they’re not as good for you as standard courgettes, I’m not saying that! They’re delicious and it’s nice to not always have chips because you can get chips anywhere! Byron does the best courgette fries around. Apart from mine. Have you tried Byron before? I’ve never been disappointed here, they always get things spot on!
