Where to eat in Nottingham: Bohns Best Burgers

A totally random Friday night dinner resulted in this blog post because I just have to share this place with you guys on here. Bohns Best Burgers is below Brewdog in Hockley and it’s a little hidden gem for Nottingham. We spotted this place on Instagram and decided to take a risk and give it a go because the Blue Cheese Fries looked incredible! We hadn’t really seen much from these guys on social media or heard much on the grapevine yet so we weren’t sure what to expect.

We weren’t disappointed at all because the food was awesome here. The burgers were super juicy, Bohns create all their own rubs for the meats and they sell them in the restaurant and online too. Their buns are all brioche from a local bakery and were delicious. Bohns also have a veggie burger and a chicken burger if you’re not down with beef. The fries were delicious, they’re automatically seasoned and it’s quite a spicy, peri-peri style seasoning so if you like plain chips, order without the seasoning. We had blue cheese fries which were delicious and they also did a loaded fries with sour cream and Mexican style toppings.

Let’s talk coleslaw. The coleslaw at Bohns is unreal, I even asked our waiter what was in it because it was incredible. It was so creamy and didn’t have that harsh vinegar edge that a lot of coleslaws do and I would have bought it any the bucket load to eat at home if I could. Finally on the food front, Bohns make their own sauces and we had to try them all. There was a mango-habanero chilli sauce, a buffalo, BBQ and a spicy mayo and they were all amazing. The BBQ and spicy mayo were my favourite and perfect to pour onto the Steakmate burger that I have which was a simple cheeseburger. All burgers were topped with pickled onions and yummy pickles too.

A couple of things that I’d comment on is that although the staff were amazing for the majority of the time but we weren’t alerted to the specials board and I noticed it after we’d ordered and spotted a few things that I might have tried so it would have been nice to have been told that they had specials when our drinks order was taken.

The other thing was the price of the fries is a bit disjointed, their ‘loaded’ fries with blue cheese for example are £4.50 and the normal seasoned fries were £2.25. I think the loaded ones were a little bit expensive, as delicious as they were it seems a lot for fries with cheese when their normal fries are half the price. For a burger, the prices are between £8-10 and that’s what I’d expect from a city centre burger place. Overall we were pleased with the value for money but that’s just one thing that I’d comment on.

They had a great selection of cool, non-fussy cocktails, gins and beers and the atmosphere was really cool and sophisticated – definitely more date night than your average burger or BBQ joint. They had live music on a Friday evening too which was cool, nice acoustic guitar and chilled vibes. Would definitely recommend this place for a date night or a mates get together because the food is great, service was really on point and the atmosphere was great. And, it’s super close to other bars and pubs for drinks afterwards. Let me know if you’ve already been here or if you’re planning to go now you’ve spotted it!
