What do you do during lockdown to keep yourself occupied? It has to be a project, right? We decided to redecorate our bedroom as it’s something that we fancied doing for a little while after some recent inspiration from a boutique hotel stay. We picked up all of our paint and goodies right before we went into proper lockdown and then decided to tackle our decorating over a couple of weekends.

This was our bedroom when we first moved in, these are the Rightmove photos and we decorated the first time which you can see here. It was a big change from our white box and we’d taken out the fitted wardrobe in the corner as it developed damp during the winter especially.

We initially like our grey makeover but it had been a little while and we fancied another change and after our visit to the Hoxton hotel in Holborn we loved their vibe, colours and geometric shapes on the wall so decided to give it a go ourselves. We wanted a bit more of a fresh vibe as the grey walls, bed and carpet was getting a little bit much and a little bit heavy!

We kept our mirror, rug, artwork on the walls, two of our MALM chest of drawers from IKEA, our bed and pretty much everything else and just re-jigged the room again, repainted and bought a couple of new pieces like a Wayfair chest of drawers and some accessories like bookends from Debenhams. We didn’t get rid of anything, our big MALM chest of drawers has moved into our spare room and is functioning lovely in there.

Our paint was B&Q in Valdez and Caracas for the walls and we used Frog Tape for the sharp lines and we used their multi-surface paint in Princeton for the woodwork.

We picked up a new light fixture from IKEA (this one is similar, I can’t find the actual one on IKEA’s site) and replaced our door handles as well as beading the outsides of the door frames so they’re neater and seem a little bit wider.

We upcycled the MALM dressers with IKEA leather pull tabs which cost around £30 but was really worth it to tie things together with the wood vibe and natural colours of tan.

We’d had our old TV from the living room chilling in our spare room for about 3-4 months and it was finally time to give it a home in our bedroom. We’ve actually never had a TV in our bedroom in over six years together but we’re really enjoying it at the moment as we do sometimes like to watch Netflix in bed especially on a Sunday morning and it’s just nice to have the option. We would have also sold the TV for next to nothing and definitely didn’t want to scrap it as it seemed like such a waste so it was the perfect use for it.

What do you think of our updated bedroom makeover? We’re really happy with it and it only cost about £300 for all of the supplies and our new chest of drawers as we kept everything else and worked around it, shopping our home for other books and plant pots to bring into the room.
