July Payday Money Diary

Another Money Diary for you team. A post pay-day one because I find I actually spend *some* money when I’ve been paid as I’ve either been waiting to buy something and I’ll always have savings bits and bobs to move around. Enjoy! Let me know if you like a regular money diary?

As a reminder/info if you’re not a regular Money Diary reader, I have ‘house money’ which is basically our joint account for groceries etc and then anything not labelled with that is my ‘disposable income’.

Wednesday
Payday. Yas. Time to sort the savings.

  • Save a little chunk into my Lifetime ISA, wedding pot and chuck £40 into a treat pot for myself for when I get my hair and nails done.
  • Change my round up pot to Christmas so I can start to get a little bit of cash together for that! This means when I spend an uneven amount the spare change pops into a savings pot.
  • Pop a bit of a contingency money aside as we’re moving house and it stresses me out that I don’t know how much our bills are going to be next month. I have my normal budget for our bills as they were before and I’ve got a chunk set aside when the bills change. Hopefully they’ll be as similar to a normal month as they can be.

(Past me wrote this and future me writing this now is v glad as our completion statement was slightly more than we had predicted so this money is not being used for future bills but oh well!)

Pay my HMRC self assessment bill which is –£191.45. Gross but have been saving for this for a few months with round up change and eBay/Depop sales so I had about £150 set aside already for this so not too painful, only £41.45 from my pay day funds to go into this. I don’t *have* to pay this until January but I don’t like having anything I can get out of the way hanging over me.

V stressful day trying not to overthink and trying to micro manage solicitors and mortgage brokers, I think I’ve learnt to leave people to it but I got a very nice thank you gift of flowers and cake/prosecco treats from L. He’s too cute.

Sell a dress on eBay, end up with +£10.36 after fees postage etc so pleased with this. I’m still on the sell everything I own hype and keep holding up random items we have to L like “How do you feel about this?” so I can shift it on Facebook Marketplace.

Last HelloFresh for dinner and then it’s time to eat all of the random food we have in our freezer and cupboards before we move.

Thursday
Wake up Thursday with some more bids on a random cushion I’m selling on eBay and sold some shorts on Depop so a teeny tiny +£3.97 in the pot after postage etc.

Couple more bids throughout the day on eBay things which I get really excited about every time I get a notification which is very sad!

Working from home (obviously) but not popping out at lunch time as i know if I do I’ll miss the Hermes dude picking up a parcel to send. Obviously because I stay in he doesn’t come but it’s FINE. I bake a failed banana bread and end up with banana pudding which is also FINE but do a workout whilst it’s cooking so I’m feeling more positive today.

Friday
Standard morning walk and podcast listen. Don’t take a lunch break today as I’m powering through getting an influencer video signed off at work.

Pop to Lidl on my lunch to grab us some wine for my grandad’s birthday, veg and garlic bread for our dinner plus some other top up shops bits -£13.56 ‘house money’. Head to Post Office to send the random things that have sold but not counting what I’ve earned from eBay etc for a few more days as I have some more things finishing over the weekend.

Random Orzo dinner from a Joe Wicks recipe but actually really nice with some garlic bread. Tomato/basil goodness with courgettes and chicken. Loads left over too which makes us a dinner for next week too which helps with our random meal plan.

Saturday
It’s HAIR DAY -£97. Not 100% happy but the journey back to blonde is a long one so we’ll just pretend it’s still lockdown and I haven’t been to the hairdressers. It’s also pissing it down so all my hairdresser’s hard work on the curls is instantly ruined.

Romantic Sainsbury’s meal deal for two –£6 for lunch and house packing and random plastic boxes from Wilko -£10.70 (house money). Packing and sorting the house because at this point we didn’t know when we were going to be moving and we were preparing for the earliest date we put forward!

Takeaway for tea because Saturday (this was part of an advert as the food was gifted for my Instagram coverage) we had a £25 code and paid -£0.12 for the extra! L bought beers so £2 for my half of these. We watch The Gift on Prime which is some weird thriller but not too bad for a trashy weekend watch.

Sunday
Bacon & egg sandwiches in bed. The dream. Couple more eBay sales but will sort tomorrow with my label printing!

Soup making, blog photo taking and in-law visiting before popping round to see my grandad in his garden for his birthday. Pub on the way home, buy beers –£4.48.

Monday
+£80 transferred from PayPal from eBay sales wahoo! –£3.34 Lidl top up shop (house money of course) for a few lunch bits and –£1 at the corner shop for Pepsi Max which gets me through the afternoon of WFH.

Gym for the FIRST TIME in 4 months. Spin class which is hellish but I really enjoyed doing something other than home workouts and walking. Left over orzo pasta dish for dinner with more garlic bread and a gin & tonic. Perfection.

Tuesday
I noticed when I was at the hairdressers that one side of my hair is super thin and seemed to have a load of breakage. My hairdresser asked me if I slept on that side and I do, literally every single night for at least 7 years (how long L and I have been sharing a bed for) so I really have a load of breakage I’ve only just noticed now my hair is a bit longer. Sucks and I want longer hair for the wedding so I want to work on strengthening that poorly side of my hair.

Spend -£18.64 on Amazon hair stuff, conditioner, a silky pillow case and some microfibre hair towels to try and minimise any breakage. I’ve also stopped sleeping on my hair so I’m using a silky scrunchie to keep it off the pillow/my face at night. Fingers crossed!

Migraine ruins my plans for a dinner out with pals. -£14.00 (house money) in Tesco for a Finest Meal for 2 and snacks, definitely not my most conscious spending decision ever but sometimes, YOLO. End of diary!

Totals:

Personal: £312.99 including almost £200 on my HMRC tax bill and over £100 on my hair. What a weird week.

Made: +£94.33 from eBay and Depop sales and we also had a gifted takeaway worth £25.

House Spend: £47.60 (this is groceries and packing stuff for moving house, a bit more than I’d like to spend without an actual food shop.)
