Getting A Wedding Underway After The Pandemic

Many people have had to cancel or postpone weddings in 2020. COVID-19 made it impossible to have large gatherings like this, leaving countless couples without the chance to tie the knot, like many of our friends sadly. As lockdown life and restrictions ease, though, we’re finally getting the opportunity to start planning again. Of course, though, organising an event like this in the wake of COVID-19 is going to take some extra care, let’s see what we might have to do!

Small Gatherings

While many people might want to pack as many people as possible into their wedding, this simply isn’t safe in the current climate. Most governments are advising that events like weddings are kept to small family groups, with only the closest friends able to come along. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing, though; small weddings are different, but they don’t offer a worse experience than their larger counterparts. A small wedding should also be much easier to plan for, as you won’t need to have as much as your disposal. And to be fair, we’re planning a small ceremony (again ish!) but we did want a little bit of a party afterwards.

The Right Venues

Finding a wedding venue can be hard, especially when you live in a busy city. These places are often booked out, and this means that you need to approach the venues you like nice and early. To make sure that your wedding is safe, choosing an outdoor venue can be a great idea. This will limit the need for PPE, while also giving everyone the chance to socialise while social distancing is in place. If you decide to have your wedding indoors, you will have to account for the extra space needed to keep people away from one another unfortunately.

Food & Drink

Feeding people at your wedding is going to be one of the trickiest parts of this event. You need a caterer that will be able to manage their kitchen properly, along with figuring out exactly how the food will be presented. Buffets are sadly a bad idea, as they force people to share equipment, while also making it harder to keep the food from getting contaminated. Alongside this, you also need to think about the plates, knives, and forks people will be using, as these will have to be handled very carefully before use. Sucks because I love a buffet.

PPE

Unfortunately, PPE is going to be an important aspect at weddings for a long time, and it will be hard to escape this sort of accessory for the whole day. Face masks are essential when people have to gather up, while things like gloves can also come in handy if people have to touch the same items. You will have to decide for yourself when it comes to wearing the masks for photos, as you will have to get very close together for this. You also need to consider providing the PPE your guests will be wearing.

At the moment we’re holding out hope that we might be able to have a ‘normal’ ish wedding in November, we really want to avoid PPE if we can! We’ll see…
