Is there a better way to spend a cold Monday evening in December than tasting Champagne, cava, Cremant and other lovely fizz? I don’t think so and that’s exactly what I spent a few hours doing this week at Brigitte Bordeaux in Sherwood, Nottingham. A wine bar tucked into a suburb of Notts that I’ve never visited before but heard loads of fun and interesting things about from my fizz loving girls.

Their website describes it…
Owned and operated by a young couple with a passion for wine and for life, for Kat and Matt Brigitte Bordeaux is about more than just wine. Along with a sense of love for food and wine, there’s an emphasis on bringing their spirited and independent ethos to Sherwood and the local neighbourhood.

We headed to one of their evening wine tasting events which cost £29 per person. We’d booked it months ago so it was forgotten money, the best kind. You feel like you’re getting a night out for free!
We tried eight different fizzes from Champagnes at £50 a bottle to a sparkling tea which was only 5% and created to taste like Christmas! There was a natural wine, a cremant, an English sparkling wine, so many different tastes and textures. It was so interesting to hear Kat talk about the different grapes, pairings and tasting notes for each wine and I really enjoyed trying them all and there was a little cheese and charcuterie board half way through to soak up some of the alcohol.
I always thought that I didn’t like Champagne as I’ve had a few, probably bad, glasses previously and I’ve tried some of the bigger brands like Moet and Lansom and not enjoyed them but I really did like the champagne that we tried on this evening. One of my favourites that I bought a bottle of was a Lambrusco – a red sparkling wine which was so lovely and perfect to pair with Christmas dinner. Brigitte Bordeaux also give you 10% off their chosen wines if you like it enough to take some home, which I did.
I’d definitely recommend the events at Brigitte Bordeaux if you’re local to Notts and enjoy your wine!
