Self-care is getting so much air time these days and it’s so great that it is. We’re all starting to realise how great it is to treat yourself, be Hygge at home, chill out, relax, stop beating ourselves up about eating chocolate biscuits and just generally be nice to ourselves. It’s all about relaxing, your wellbeing, your health, sleep quality, the list goes on. But, at the end of the day it’s all things that we should care SO much about but in this crazy modern age (lol how old am I?), we can forget about because we’re just “too busy”. Here are four of the ways that I’m trying to use to look after myself a little bit more. After all, we only gots one body and one mind, guys, might as well treat them right!
The importance of exercise when working in an office is huge. Sitting down all day can be really bad for you! If I don’t leave work at lunchtime for a stroll around town or to run some errands then I literally can clock up less than 4000 steps a day which I only get in because we walk to and from the carpark which is about 25-30 minutes walking a day in total. This is shocking!
Our lives are becoming busier than ever. We fill up every moment with activities; work, holidays, nights out, seeing friends and family – there’s rarely a spare moment. We are constantly on the go and whilst it’s fun to fill up every day and leave little room for boredom it has definitely lead our lives to become pretty cluttered.
Sleep is so important. When you don’t sleep properly you don’t function properly, well at least I know that I definitely don’t. I can’t concentrate, I feel lethargic and I can’t be bothered to do anything. Plus, I usually end up craving sugar and end up in a crash when I’ve caved and eaten a cookie or 4. Here are 5 ways to make sure you’re really getting the most out of your sleep and therefore the most out of your day!
Despite being completely locked into a digital society where faceless interaction means more than nourishing personal mental health, spiritual and traditional practices are becoming more ingrained in our daily lives, they’re actually getting pretty trendy again. We’ve come to the end of our tether when it comes to the emotional black holes that a digital world is having. Because of this, we are seeing a rise in popularity of wellness and mindfulness techniques. In a nutshell – Yoga is back with a vengeance.
It’s a sad fact that many of us just aren’t exactly happy when we look in the mirror. In the scheme of things, it’s perfectly okay to not be too fond of your muffin top, or despair over bingo wings. We can do certain things to change how we look, but most of just have to accept that we’re never going to be 100% perfect. And why should we be? Find me someone who is! Still, many of us beat ourselves up because we fail to meet up to impossible ideals. The reason most women don’t look like the ones in a magazine is simple. We haven’t sat for hours being primped and preened by professional hair stylists and makeup artists. Nor have we had the benefit of an experienced photographer with optimised lighting. And surprise, we haven’t been photoshopped to an inch of our lives, either!
Work/life balance is a crazy thing. Everyone will always have a different opinion on it and it’s interesting to see where you naturally fall. This quick quiz is the perfect way to find out whether you’re a separator, integrator or volleyer and how it affects you. I gave it a go!
