Festivals are pretty much one of the best things about summer (shout out to summer holidays too) and if you’re yet to don your finest festival attire – denim shorts, some kind of fringing and wellies obvs – in your lifetime for a weekend of muddy musical mayhem then quite frankly you’re missing out.
But the thing about festivals is, as fun and exciting as they are they can really take it out of you if you start to go over the top on indulgence and neglect yourself when it comes to the healthy stuff.
Festivals require stamina and sadly you can’t keep the party going for a whole weekend if you fill your body with rubbish, so take inspiration from these healthy tips and you’ll be on your way to the best festival experience ever!
Keep Hydrated
Cider is the festival drink of choice but that doesn’t mean it needs to be the only fluid you put into your body for three days straight. Of course, you can indulge in a tipple and unwind but remember to keep your water levels topped up too.
Keep a bottle of water to hand at all times and remember it’s better to sip rather than guzzle, as your body simply doesn’t get the same health benefits if you gulp it all in one go. Plus, you’ll help to ward off any festival hangovers by keeping yourself hydrated with the good stuff.
Don’t Ditch The Diet
Whether you’re on holiday abroad or on a staycation in the UK it can be all too tempting to throw the diet out of the window and find the nearest burger van for a greasy food fix. Whilst it’s okay to have the odd unhealthy treat just because you’re having a break from ‘real life’ the healthy diet doesn’t need to be ditched.
Food is fuel and more fuel means more dancing which is always a winner. These days festivals are as much about the food as they are the music with more and more gourmet options popping up in your favourite fields. Pick up food designed for energy such as porridge topped with berries or a wholemeal bagel for breakfast, top up with a quinoa salad around lunch and if you want to have something more lavish in the evening. These field friendly snacks will also keep you full between meals too.
Pack Wisely
Festival fashion is a big deal. Like a really big deal. But it’s super hard to remember that whilst festivals are the new catwalks (who else takes inspiration from Coachella’s finest?!) you do need to pack for the weather – especially in the UK when rain is a plenty during the summer months – after all, you don’t want to catch a cold.
Take plenty of thin layers which you can whip off and pop on should the weather heat up. Think striped tees under summer dresses, and denim shirts over the top. Don’t forget your rain mac or snuggly jumper either!
Be Legal
Just because you’re in a field in the middle of nowhere it doesn’t mean that the usual laws don’t apply. Security is always tight at festivals and for good reason too, everyone wants to have the best weekend so adhere to the rules and don’t rain on anyone’s parade.
Check out rules relating to where you can and can’t smoke (don’t forget vaping is safer though), lost person/property policies, photography and filmography guidelines and permitted items in the festival areas – it’s worth noting that some festivals only allow you to consume your own food and drink in the campsite area rather than the main festival grounds.
Staying safe and healthy doesn’t mean your festival experience will be boring, in fact, you’ll probably find you’re full of energy and carefree – enjoy!
