4 Bridesmaid Ideas: Be Upstanding For The Bridesmaids!

Planning a wedding is really exciting. The old-school and pretty awful general consensus was that you should have ugly bridesmaids so that they don’t stand out above you on the day. I mean, sorry but all of my friends are beautiful on the inside and out. But, if there is one lesson that brides could learn really fast, it’s that you cannot be outshone by a bridesmaid. Now I’ve not even decided if I really want bridesmaids as our wedding is pretty low key but I still love dreaming about the Pinterest boards and love to chat about the topic.

The thing is, the women who are upstanding for you on your big day are women you respect and love. So, instead of making them look like trolls that live under a bridge (what is this weird idea?), you need to make them look as beautiful as possible so that they can stand out with you. Here are some ideas that I love.

1. Same Colour Dresses

It’s such a tradition for bridesmaids to be matchy matchy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the traditional. All matching can be a very striking look when you look back on your wedding photographs. You can really enjoy the chance to choose dresses that don’t clash, and with the fabrics being, all the same, the girls will look stylish and stunning.

2. Different Styles

You want to give your bridesmaids the chance to choose their own look. Trust us when we say that you want to do this, as bridesmaids all have different body types. What suits your tall and leggy friend won’t suit the shorter ones in the group. So, allowing them the choice of what style dress to choose (with your final say, of course), can give your bridesmaids some creative license and the freedom to have a little confidence with it.

3. Switch Up The Colours

Okay, so you’ve picked a colour palette based on three different colours. You have six bridesmaids – why not have two of each colour? You can go for anything from pastels and grey to a unique blue color for bridesmaid dresses that really stands me. It doesn’t have to be matching throughout all six, and if you can colour match your theme and palette, they’re going to look beautiful and complement one another. This way, you can also choose tones that match skin type, too!

4. Embrace Sequins

There is no rule to say that you have to have bridesmaids dresses in one colour. Why not embrace sequins and choose a little elegance for your evening wedding. The light down the aisle will bounce off the sequins and make them look beautiful. The sequins won’t steal the spotlight from you on the big day either, as they’re an exquisite neutral style of dress. To pull off this look, your bridesmaids do need to match as the metallic elements of the dress will complement one another.

Your bridesmaids deserve to stand out for a good reason on your wedding day. They want to be a part of the day and look as great as you up there by the altar.
