This post is in collaboration with Liverpool ONE’s eco-friendly campaign.
How to be more eco friendly has to be at the top of most of our lists this year – it sure is for us. I’ve spoken about this many times before on my blog all around day to day life and 5 ways to be more eco friendly and this post about sustainable style which is based around shopping my own wardrobe, shopping less and better and shunning fast fashion as much as possible.
Style it eco
As well as shopping less we all need to focus on how we care for the clothes that we already have when it comes to the environment, check out the stat below, it’s so interesting. We always wash at 30 degrees and then don’t have a tumble drier so this all helps. I also try to do washes as big as I can so to do less washes in total. And, only wash something if it really needs it – check out your clothes at the end of the day and if they don’t smell and aren’t dirty with dropped lunch down the front of them, they probably don’t need washing!
Keep up the little things
Our day to day tips include using metal water bottles – which I actually much prefer to plastic ones as they keep your water nice and cold. Swapping to biodegradable face wipes, using wax wraps (these ones* are super cute with pineapples and kiwis on!) which means using less clingfilm and foil and loads more things like and lowering food waste with preserving food and freezing more. We’ve recently invested in these silicone baking sheets* from Amazon and they really are awesome for cooking food on as well as meaning we’re using less oil and a lot less foil.
We’re continuing to do all of these things and recycle as much as possible as well as hardly buying plastic water bottles. A couple of new things that we’ve picked up doing is recycling crisp packets as I looked this up and there’s a pub super close to where I work that has a Walkers recycling point – so far in my office we’ve had three massive bags for life bursting with crisp packets that we’ve recycled and everyone is on board, it’s so great.
Beauty swaps
At work we’ve also started doing some beauty and skincare product swaps of things that we’ve tried and didn’t get on with as well as fully unused products. We took everything in, swapped what we wanted to try or knew that we would use from other people and then the rest was donated to something called the Juno trust, a women’s shelter local to us in Nottingham.
Support green initatives
Another thing you can do to support eco-friendly initiatives is use zero-waste shops wherever possible, buy more fruit and veg without packaging, walk more, eat less animal products (something we’re working on), check out charity shops, Depop and eBay before you buy something new and so much more. Even big shopping centres like Liverpool ONE have been getting involved with being more environmentally friendly with their eco-friendly Christmas campaign last month.
The centre is full of vegan eateries, places you can buy plastic-free cosmetics and loads of coffee places with discounts/extra points if you use your own cup not a disposable one. I’ve also seen loads of recycling points pop up in my own local shopping centres and all of my favourite eating places are using eco-friendly disposable cutlery if they have to and also have stopped plastic straws or switched to plastic ones. Liverpool ONE also support people car sharing and using public transport to get to the centre which really helps carbon footprint too. There’s so much we can all do if we just give things a little bit of thought. It’s the little things that really add up that are going to make a huge difference!
