4 of the best high street wedding dresses

If a budget wedding is on the cards, as it is for us, everything you buy is scrutinised with the “do we really need this?” question. It’s not about being ‘stingy’ it’s about only getting what you really want and need out of your big day. For me, the dress and what I wear is important, of course, but it’s not the be all and end all of my day. I haven’t been dreaming of a wedding and a big white dress since I was a little girl. I’ve dreamt of a happy family since I was a little girl and that’s what our wedding day is all about for me.

Plus, the dress (or outfit!) is a great part of the wedding where you can really claw back some of the cost if you’re happy, and able to wear something off the peg. Designer and boutique and gorgeous handmade and tailored wedding dresses will cost you around £2,000, if not more. So far, I have spent £68 on my wedding outfit with my shoes and a (luckily last one in my size) sale jumpsuit which is from a bridal range.

So, if like me, you’re perfectly happy and content with an off the peg outfit, have a look at these beauties from the high street. These ranges have come on so much in the past few years that you really can spend a lot less than in previous years and still look absolutely amazing.

All of these beautiful dresses and jumpsuits are £250 or under.

1. ASOS EDITION wedding dress with open back and floral embroidery* – £180

I absolutely love how extra this dress is, it’s simply stunning and really makes a statement. If you’re all about making a statement, this is unreal. It has such a pretty neckline, a floral design and an open back which I love all of these. Added to this, long sleeves are my thing for wedding outfits because they’re so chic.

I think an up-do with this dress is perfect and you won’t need tonnes of jewellery or a veil if you don’t want one as the dress does all the talking!

£180 is a bargain for a wedding dress and ASOS often have lots of 20% off sales on throughout the year. Plus, you could ask for ASOS vouchers easily for birthdays and Christmas and stack your codes for a real gem on a budget.

2. French Connection Annalise Jumpsuit* £125

A jumpsuit is my one true love in my normal wardrobe, so it was one of my go-tos for wedding outfits. They’re just so modern. I also love a wide leg and the detailed body on this jumpsuit is beautiful. Perfect with flats as it’s styled if you’re not down with heels but would also look equally amazing with some white or silver barely there sandals.

This stunner is only available to pre-order now and will be available to dispatch on 21st February 2020.

3. Warehouse Satin Cami Bridesmaid Dress – £85

Although technically a bridesmaid dress I really don’t think it matters. This one is so simple and chic it’s perfect if you absolutely love the slip dress look. And, for only £85 this is amazing value, you can really go to town with whatever hair you suit perfectly as anything goes with a dress this simple. Plus, keep an eye out for discount codes or use the voucher trick again!

4. Oasis Pleated Wedding Dress – £250

For a bit of a retro vibe, this Oasis dress is so beautiful. “Elegant lace meets a twirling pleated skirt in this vintage-inspired silhouette. Featuring an open back and delicate button fastenings, it’s a truly unforgettable wedding dress.” AND IT’S ONLY £250 for a *wedding* dress!

Whistles also have some gorgeous wedding dresses which sit around the £500 mark which is around a third to a quarter of the price of a boutique or bespoke dress, as do Monsoon and Needle and Thread so there are plenty of options if you’re looking more mid-range on the price spectrum. There really is a dress for every budget! What do you think? Would you wear off the peg or is it your dream to get fitted for your perfect dress?
