I planned to do a money diary a lot earlier into the lockdown drama but I wasn’t really spending much and honestly didn’t really know what I was going to say. Now we’ve just reach the end of week 6 and I decided at the beginning of this week to get my act together and do a money diary because I don’t really have much else going on in the way of content and I know these posts usually go down quite well!
Monday
Working from home, of course! Weather’s gross in the morning but we get out for a good walk for most of my lunchtime together. Have left over sweet potato chilli for lunch which was awesome and crack on with the afternoon’s work stuff.
Just as I’m finishing work a lovely lady I’ve helped out in the past with some freelance work drops me a message and asks for some urgent help. I’m never one to leave anyone in the lurch so knew I could help her out in a few hours. Up +£90 by the end of Monday which is a strong start.
We order burgers from a local place which ends up being £6.24 for my half because we have a seriously awesome 50% off Uber Eats code a.k.a the dream. They were amazing and obviously a bit of a treat for a Monday but we felt like we needed cheering up.
Good TV day, Monday. Yes to a new episode of Killing Eve and Made in Chelsea and SAS Who Dares Wins celeb version. Saw Jamie Laing and obviously remembered I wanted to buy some Candy Kittens little gift bag sizes for my hen do goodie bags and my sisters’ birthday pressies so pick up a box of 12 packs for just £8.99 with postage with another discount code. Unfortunately the date for eating them is before my hen do party so nightmare I’ll have to just eat all the leftovers and buy some more before my party!
Sell a Depop dress for £13 but then with fees & postage to take off (£3.10 tomorr0w), I end up with only +£7.92 profit but still, I forgot I had things on Depop so always a bonus!
+£97.92
Spend: £15.23
Tuesday
Head to our local super small post office / corner shop which is empty luckily and my Depop postage is £3.10. Buy eyebrow dye and Amazon Prime student delivery which was half price and cheaper than the actual delivery for the eyebrow dye itself! £10.99
Make an amazing daal and homemade naan breads for dinner which I really enjoyed making after last night’s takeaway. I usually love to cook most of the time and just find it relaxing at the end of the day working at home.
We start watching Normal People on BBC and omg it is too good. Stressed at how good it is. I read the book and enjoyed it but it was just a bit weird, hard to read and the first book I’d read that didn’t have much happening. I think it’s so much better as a series personally, it’s so interesting.
Spend: £14.09

Wednesday
Uneventful day. £1 at the little corner shop for chocolate on our walk. This is it! Peppermint Aero – underrated.
Spend: £1
Thursday
£34.99 goes out of our joint food shopping account for our upcoming Gousto box for next week. We get one monthly at the moment as we think it’s quite expensive but we do think it’s really good value for money as we always love the meals and the recipes! I linked some of our favourite Gousto recipes that we make regularly now in this post from last week.
The only thing we buy today are Free Train harnesses for running. Which sound weird but are so much comfier than an armband or a running belt for your phone and keys. A bit of a splurge but we’ve really picked up our running recently thanks to lockdown, obvs, so we thought we’d definitely use them! £31.99 each but Luke pays and it goes on our bill splitting app.
Spend: £31.99
Friday
Have a walk first thing listening to the Normal People BBC Sounds podcast and get soaked as it starts raining! Work today, from home, of course. Luke makes amazing bacon and fried egg sandwiches for breakfast and I have a really great speech therapy call with my speech therapist which cheers me up loads.
We order a cute birthday card for our friend’s lovely baby, £2.13 my half.
After work we go to Tesco for our first massive shop in ages and spend £68.96 which includes gin and a bottle of prosecco for one of our friend’s birthdays. This is pricey but we haven’t bought things like tea and coffee and stocked up on squash and gin for ages.
Spend: £2.13
Saturday
We walk down to the market and grab some fruit and eggs for £8. Run/walk 8km on the Couch to 10k app with our new harnesses.
Get back and shower, have lunch and chill out for the afternoon, have a fun FaceTime catch up with my grandad and watch a weird Netflix film. Order Pizza Hut with 50% off code (of course) £18.49 on the bill splitting app for us both but £9.25 for my half.
Spend: £9.25
Weekly spend (from my disposable income money not joint account) ended up at £73.69 and we spent over £100 from our joint account. We’ve definitely been spending more on food recently because probably it’s our only form of entertainment, we’re eating every meal at home of course! But obviously we’re saving on petrol so we haven’t had to put any more money in our joint card than normal.
I made £97 so left this week with a £23.96 profit (when my invoice is paid lol). Kind of a strange spending week, I’ve been internet window shopping like nothing before but I’m not really buying any clothes because I just don’t feel like it, it feels like a waste! I also wasn’t expecting a bit of bonus freelance work at the moment so that was well received. What about you, are you spending more, less, the same at this weird time?
