Moving into a new house (a blog post in the making FYI) is a really exciting time and as well as the excitement of a new location and a bigger space comes the joy of decorating. We’re moving (hopefully – I don’t want to jinx it as the house buying process can be so turbulent!) into a new build so we have hardly any building work and renovations to do so it’s all about interior design.
Our bedroom is a huge thing to us, it’s our haven and after the living room will be the main room we’ll want to decorate almost as soon as we move in. As the space in the new house will be so different to what we have now I’ve been trying to educate myself more about interior design and the ‘rules’ of it to make the space as perfect as it can be. I know that I like to decorate but getting it design-perfect is something I’m aiming for. I’ve been watching an interior design course on SkillShare which has been teaching me all about colours that complement each other, balance and asymmetry, repetition and rhythm and what styles can be merged together and it’s been so interesting.

I’ve pulled together a mood board for our new bedroom which you can see above and after I spotted a few designs on Pinterest that I loved I had a look for some paint colours on Valspar. We love Valspar paint and have used it a few times in our current house as it’s really good quality and is hard wearing. I loved this green, Grand Prix Green, as soon as I saw it and wanted to see what the complimentary colour on the other side of the colour wheel would be. This is how to get a colour scheme that really, really works. As this colour that I like is a blue/grey green the other side of the wheel is a red/orange so I had a look for a pop of colour and I loved these dark coral coloured cushions I spotted in the Antropologie sale.
I had a look for some accessories and we already have the Instagram-famous Berber rug from La Redoute in our living room which would look fantastic with this new colour scheme and the beige carpet in the bedroom that’s we’re keen to keep and I think that they’d go together really nicely. As you’ve seen in my previous bedroom makeover blog posts the first time we decorated and then more recently re-decorated in April, we already have a grey divan bed which suits this room as I’ve seen in the main inspiration image I loved from Pinterest. We don’t want to replace our bed because it’s fairly new and want to work with lots of the items we already have such as the rug so that we can keep costs down a little – it’ll be nice to move items around the house to give them new leases of life.
Some larger things that we want to do in the room will be a panelling wall behind the bed and some wardrobes on the opposite walls. We need to grab some bedside tables, we already have some great lamps that will go perfectly and our current orange-toned cushions from our living room will look great with the green and natural-toned colour scheme. I can’t wait to get started, re-decorate a little and recycle our items we already own by shopping our current belongings. (This is also a tip from my interiors course on SkillShare – shop your own home!)
