Well, 2020 has been an interesting one, hasn’t it? Lockdowns and social distancing rules have messed up all sorts of plans and celebrations, including weddings – definitely ours. Brides and grooms who had spent months and years saving up for and planning their dream wedding, hoping to be surrounded by all their family and friends saw their dreams disappear faster than you can shout ‘social distancing’. Many have had to scale it right back, others have postponed and some unfortunate ones have cancelled them altogether – like us.
At the time of writing, weddings can still go ahead in the UK with up 15 guests. While this might be disappointing for those who hope to be surrounded by their family and friends while they say ‘I do’, it is something that is unavoidable for the time being. We’re not planning on a COVID secure wedding but if this is your only time to get married, just go for it and have the best day you can with these tips.
1. Use a wedding planner
Many people think that you only need to use a wedding planner if you are having a BIG big day but actually, a wedding planner is ideal in situations like this. If there are any issues, they can liaise with suppliers and vendors on your behalf if problems arise or the rules change and can give you advice on scaling up to scaling down if things should change. You could plan your wedding with katrinaotterweddings.co.uk.
2. Make sure you have wedding insurance
You should have wedding insurance anyway to cover you for any disasters, cancellations or suppliers going bust, but in the middle of a global pandemic, it is essential. Should there be a problem with any element of your wedding and you need to claim your money back, the insurers will be there to assist you. Make sure that you do read the small print carefully to check what is covered and what is not, especially if it comes to another national lockdown and the cancellation of all weddings, but the main thing is that you have it in place.
3. Protect your guests
While it is your day, you need to think about the measures that you will take to keep your guests safe. Your venue should be advising you on how they will assist you with social distancing and whether masks need to be worn, but you also need to take responsibility, particularly if they are older or vulnerable. It is worth sitting down with your guests and having a conversation with them prior to the now not-so-big day to see what will make them feel safe and comfortable.
At the very end of the day, your wedding is about you and your soon to be husband or wife. You are so much more than the things that you are worried about, as valid as your concerns and anxieties may be. If nothing else, the coronavirus pandemic has shown us more than ever how important love and relationships can be.
