AD – Can our DIY projects join the war on plastic waste with Hippo?

AD – Sponsored post with Tembe DIY and Hippo Products

You’ll know that we love to do DIY, decorate and change up our interiors but of course, this can come with lots of rubbish, packaging and unfortunately plastic waste. But, there’s a DIY company here to try and make a change. Hippo are declaring their ‘War on Waste Plastics’ in the constructions industry and is going green! Did you know that 23% of plastic produced in the UK is consumed by the construction industry and 25% of construction packaging waste is plastic? Shocking, isn’t it? Hippo believe that no one can do everything, but everyone can do something so we’ll try to be a lot more eco-friendly with our choices of DIY materials in the future.

Hippo create caulk, filler and sealants – all things we use in our day to day DIY projects. All of the products I’ve been sent to trial are available as part of the 14 product Hippo Pro advanced range of sealants, fillers and adhesives from builders’ merchants throughout the UK including Travis Perkins, Jewson, Crown, Selco, Buildbase, Boys & Boden amongst others. There are products like the Hippo General Purpose Silicone and Filltite Decorators Caulk which are definitely both product we’d use in our next interiors makeover. Could you change your usual caulk brand to something a little more eco-friendly like Hippo?

The materials you’d use to seal a bath or shower are commonly packaged in non-biodegradable high-density polyethylene but Hippo is packaged in eco-friendly aluminium foil ‘sausage’ packaging and they’ve replaced their standard plastic cartridges with new Eco-Pacs. The packaging is still super strong and are obviously much better for the environment! They actually generate 96% less waste and less than 1% plastic compared with standard cartridges. Plus, you get more product in this packaging too!

In the UK it is estimated that five million tonnes of plastic is used every year, nearly half of which is packaging. The construction industry accounts for a quarter of the plastic consumed in the UK, making it the second largest consumer of plastic. Tembé DIY and Building Products, an independent company based in Doncaster who create building and decorating products for professional trade has declared a ‘War on Waste plastics’ in the construction industry and under its Hippo brand of sealants and adhesives launched a green range to kick the plastic habit.

Make a change, be the difference – help save the planet and choose new Hippo Eco-Pac for your needs.
