A hotel review? What is this, 2019? I know. Travels are back. Mini breaks are back. Hotel reviews are back and I’m so here for it. Recently we headed away for a trip for L’s birthday and as part of his gift I booked us a room at the Hart Shoreditch Hotel. We usually stay around Shoreditch area as we like the vibe, know our way around *roughly* and there were some restaurants that we wanted to try out in the local area.
This weekend we stayed at The Hoxton in Holborn and it really was lovely so I wanted to do a little review because I was so impressed.
We paid for this trip, it wasn’t gifted in any way. I mentioned it was for my birthday on the booking section on Hotels.com and the team left us a small bottle of wine in the room with a note saying happy birthday which was so nice. They also had a lovely little map, magazines and nice guides of the area too to read through.
Today’s post is a little feature and a review for the Judges’ Court Hotel in York – this stay wasn’t gifted, we paid for it ourselves but I always think it’s useful to read reviews of hotels in mini-break locations because I’m never sure about Tripadvisor if I’m honest (too many conflicting views!). I just like to add reviews into the mix and let you know whether I’d pay to stay there again. We headed to York to see James Acaster because we couldn’t get tickets in Nottingham where we live and so decided to just make it a long Bank Holiday weekend mini-break because we’d only been to York on a very cold afternoon once together and then years ago as kids separately so we wanted to explore it some more.
Ok, ok, maybe a bit click bait-y but it’s totally true. Leeds is the only city I’ve been to on a city break that I could see myself living in. We’ve been to Amsterdam, Dublin, Barcelona (up there!), Manchester, London and loads more in the few years that we’ve been together and Leeds was definitely my favourite city break.
I love a city break, if you follow my blogging or Instagram adventures, you’ll know this! I also like to think I’ve got *some* London knowledge and I’m not a typical tourist but there are still so many places that I haven’t experienced. So, when Mercure Hotels challenged me with a City Swap with the lovely Milly from Mini Adventures, I jumped at the chance to see what a real Londoner would recommend to me to do.
When a hotel room is at least 3x the size of your flat you know you’re about to have a great night, right? The Titanic Hotel Liverpool suites are absolutely ridiculously huge and beautiful and we had an awesome time. We paid for a standard room which looked incredible in itself but we managed to wangle an upgrade when we said it was our anniversary. I mean, if you don’t ask, you don’t get and we just thought we’d try it!
We like to get out and about in the UK, try new towns and cities and always find a new coffee shop to delve into. This weekend we stayed at the Cheltenham Park Hotel which is a huge hotel in the beautiful Cotswolds and I thought I’d tell you all about it.
The Location & Facilities
Cheltenham Park is actually located in Charlton Kings, about 2 miles drive from the centre of Cheltenham in a quiet area and only about 10 minutes from Cheltenham Racecourse. It’s a really big hotel, one of the biggest I’ve stayed in but the rooms are all great sizes. There is a gym, spa, beauty and health club facilities with a pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. We spent some time in the well-equipped gym and the pool on Saturday afternoon which was lovely. I decided to run a 5km in addition to my Marathon In A Month that I’m doing for the British Heart Foundation and I loved running on an actual treadmill instead of the road for once!
Here comes another hotel review for all you keen travellers! This weekend we stayed at the Risley Hall Hotel & Spa as part of a Red Letter Days gift that we received for Christmas and the hotel was so pretty I thought I’d write a little review as it’s a great location for the East Midlands.
If you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ll know I’ve just come back from a week long Greek escape on the island of Corfu. Specifically, we stayed in Kassiopi, a tiny little harbour town on the East side of the island. We visited here last year and decided to venture back as it’s such a beautiful place and we wanted a surefire amazing holiday location.
Fancy escaping the Christmas madness with a luxury break? Ok, maybe not all the madness, I can’t get you a teleportation device straight to your hotel room but I’ve got a few treats that can make a Christmas break extra festive and extra relaxing.
I’m focusing on Covent Garden today because I think it’s the prettiest bit of London! I really liked sitting outside and having a glass of wine just people watching when I headed there earlier in the month, it was just really relaxing.
