4 Ways to Get Your Home Ready For Summer

Winter is (fingers crossed) almost gone for another year and the longer days and warmer weather should be starting to make themselves known again. I won’t lie to you, it’s a good feeling to not have to put on three thermals and a jumper just to leave the house! I mean, I’ve only got one thermal on today. *Eye roll emoji* Is summer around the corner?

One of the things that also changes as the seasons transition is our homes – in winter we focus on making our place as warm and cosy as possible to contrast the sometimes horrible weather outside, so if you’re starting to look forward to summer and feel like your rooms could be doing with a bit of a makeover, then in this post I’m going to share with you some of the simple ways that you can get your home ready for summer.

Paint
A fresh coat of paint really has the ability to completely transform your house, and the great thing about painting is that it’s quite easy and fairly affordable to do, so if you’re on a budget, but want to freshen your place up, then painting is the perfect way to do this. Even if you’re afraid of going too bold or bright with your colors, you can use something like a feature wall where it’s one color and the rest of the walls are more neutral shades that contrast it like we’ve done in our bedroom

New furniture
If you have a bit more money to spend and are looking for some significant changes in the look and feel of your place, then you could consider getting some new furniture since this will definitely create change.

Accessories
You’re always going to find accessories for your home to be some of the easiest things to come across especially on the high street these days. Whether you’re looking for some vases, some summer scented candles or even just a nice set of throw cushions for your sofa, getting some bright home accessories that fit with the season will really bring that summer energy alive and help you create the look you’re after. Check out our living room for some cushion inspo!

Declutter
We’ve all been guilty at some point in our lives of hoarding far more stuff than we actually need, but clutter can be one of the most annoying things that we can have! Marie Kondo the shiz out of your life, I promise you you’ll feel awesome.

Not only does clutter just make any room look worse, but it lowers the energy and makes it feel like a stressful and negative place to be, so it’s really worth taking some time to determine if you really do need all the stuff you have in your house and if you could perhaps do without some of it.

If you decide to get rid of it, then you could do something like donate to charity, or even sell it if you feel like the stuff is maybe worth something. In the end, once you get rid of the clutter, you’ll feel so much better and your home will feel lighter and more welcoming, which is really the ideal energy you want to have, not only during the summer, but all year round.

Hopefully this post was helpful to see the different ways in which you can make simple changes to your home that will transform it in time for summer without needing to spend loads or overwhelm yourself!

Really, home upgrades and even renovations don’t have to be overly time consuming or expensive, but it’s really just about finding what works for you, not only in terms of your budget, but also the style you’re looking for. We’ve taken 9 months to almost complete our house since we bought it – kitchen update to come soon!

If you’re not sure where you should even begin with doing this stuff, then looking online for inspiration would be a good starting point as would visiting shops to get an idea of what kind of stuff is one the high street right now so that you can see what you like and also get an idea of how much things cost so that you can set a budget for getting your home ready for the summer.
