How to pick the perfect winter weekend getaway

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I love to explore the UK and get out and about for long weekends and seasonal escapes! Check out our adventures to North Yorkshire and this amazing log cabin lodge that we found on AirBnb. I’m on the hunt for another break soon as the run up to Christmas, and the season itself, is bound to be manic.
You know what it’s like, countless catch ups, cocktails, cute festive activities, I mean it starts around Halloween and Bonfire night and continues for about two months, doesn’t it? As much as I love getting out and about and being busy during the festive period there’s something to be said about hitting the hard reset button after summer and getting a rest before the chaos ensues!
But, how can you choose the perfect place that’s really going to relax you?
1. Know what you want to get out of your break
When I’m looking for a weekend getaway it usually depends on how we’re feeling as to what we’re going for. We always plan to go somewhere based on what we feel we need to get out of the break. If we’re feeling a bit stressed by daily life, work and like we need to shake off the city and get some fresh air into our lungs then we’ll always look for somewhere to visit with some great walks and National Trust properties to visit and we’ll make the most of that membership. On this type of break we’ll be cosy, wear fleeces and generally not leave our cabin or apartment because it’s chill time.

But sometimes we want a super luxury break with a lovely, quaint city such as York to wander around, eat amazing food and stay in a luxury hotel or apartment. On this kind of break we’re after a treat, a gorgeous meal, a spa treatment, amazing cocktails – generally just feeling fancy and treating ourselves for working hard.

2. Know where you want to visit
Some people (us!) have a list as long as their arms for places in the UK to visit and we always try and see somewhere new each time we go away. Recently, we’ve been venturing up north when we want an escape, we just seem to gravitate higher rather than lower in the country unless we’re heading to London but perhaps a luxury Suffolk hotel could be on the cards? We love a boutique hotel feel! This is a sponsored post with Bedford Lodge Hotel which is 4 star and it got me thinking about the different types of escape that we love to take.
The Bedford Lodge Hotel is home to a 5 bubble rated spa in Suffolk and it’s super close to Newmarket races so this could be an activity if you go during races season! The hotel also has an award-winning restaurant called Squires Restaurant and a more casual Roxana Bar. The spa features a spacious hydrotherapy pool, rooftop hot tub, sauna, steam room and they offer a range of treatment packages which is perfect for the luxury, treat style of getaway.
3. Have a plan
Even if you’re heading away for a relaxing weekend it’s good to have a plan of what you’re going to want to do whilst you’re away. Even if we know we’re going to relax I’ll decide on a range of books and magazines I want to read and I’ll make sure I’ve downloaded Netflix series or podcasts that have been on my list for ages if we’re having a chilled weekend. If we’re visiting somewhere new I’ll get straight on Instagram and search for food and drink places that I think look delicious! I’ll also look for options to do if it’s raining or the weather is amazing – I just like to be prepared because I never want to feel like I’ve ruined the opportunity for a break. Where are you going on your next mini break? Let me know in the comments or on Instagram!
