Four January Self-Care Favourites

This post contains some gifted items marked with an asterisk.

January isn’t everyone’s favourite month. The first ‘normal’ month following Christmas isn’t ever going to be a winner is it? We can put up with the cold in December cos, festive. But, January? No thanks. Getting through January and wishing our way into spring is all about forgetting it’s the first month of the year, not thinking about fad diets, just chilling out and giving ourselves a little self care.

Here are four of my current self care favourites alongside the classics of eating well, drinking water, yoga and a hot bath.

1. Aromatherapy & Essential Oils

Good smells are so underrated. I love when my house smells great, I love to use products in my skincare routine and throughout the day that smell great and essential oils are perfect for this.Tisserand is an essential oil-led wellbeing company based in West Sussex. Who’s aim is to help improve health, wellbeing and lifestyle naturally with quality ingredients and affordable prices.

They’ve recently launched their new Nature Spa Bath and Body collection in a range of blends, each containing our pure organic essential oils which includes Mandarin & May Chang Uplifting Hand and Body Soap* and Mandarin & May Chang Uplifting Hand Cream*.

Step into Nature’s Spa and embrace uplifting aromas as you deeply nourish hands and nails. An easily absorbed, essential oil-rich cream with moisturising Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E-rich Sunflower Seed Oil to help condition the skin and nails, leaving hands feeling refreshed and smooth.

2. Mindful Hobbies

I love to do something that keeps me occupied without being on my phone. My two favourite ‘mindful’ hobbies at the moment are knitting – something I taught myself, with the help of one of my besties who is a knitting queen, in the first lockdown and doing a jigsaw puzzle – so therapeutic and you get such a sense of achievement even though all you’ve done is pop a few pieces together to make a picture! I like to do these both whilst having a comfort TV series or film on in the background – something I’ve seen before like Friends or How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days because you can focus but still enjoy the odd snippet from the movie or show.

3. Journalling

I got this lovely self care journal for Christmas and it’s so cute. It’s also really easy to fill in, there’s no big soul searching to do, nothing too ‘deep’, you simply have to write your intention for the day and sometimes, for me, that’s just to have a good day or, to take things as they come because you can’t control everything! Plus, you write down what you’ll do for your self care that day – up to five things. Some of mine are drink four of my water bottles, do my gua-sha in my skincare routine, do a little workout, get outside for a walk, do a face mask – you get the gist. Little things that you know make you feel better or nice or just relaxed. Then, at the end of the day you set an intention for tomorrow and write three things that you’re grateful for. It’s really helped me feel more grateful about everything in my day to day life.

4. Treating Yourself

I always find the most helpful self care for myself is to actually get ready in the morning properly. Shower, get dressed into something warm and comfortable but something that still makes me feel nice, add a little makeup and put my jewellery on. My current favourite piece is this Astley Clarke locket*. I needed a silver necklace with a pendant for a while as I have lots of gold costume jewellery style pieces from some of my other favourite brands but nothing silver. My engagement ring and another daily ring I wear are both silver so it makes sense to have something that ‘goes’. This is the Deco White Sapphire Locket in Sterling Silver and it’s so pretty.
