It’s probably a lot more common than I think for adults to have braces but it’s taken me a few years to really take the plunge. Something triggered me to actually go, yeah, OK I’m going to treat myself to a new set of teeth because I hate them and I’m sick of trying to kid myself I don’t!
Everyone I’ve told I’m getting braces has said something along the lines of: “Your teeth are so straight”, “You don’t even have bad teeth”, “They’re beautifully even”. Nope, they’re not, they medically don’t fit in my mouth because they’re so freaking big I’m having to get them shaved down at the sides. I’ve hated these ‘tombstones’ since I can remember. My teeth aren’t straight and they aren’t even and every time I sit in the hairdressers chair and have to look at myself for over an hour I end up feeling really insecure about how I look.
I chose Invisalign over fixed braces purely because they were £500 off for Black Friday (winner!) and they can hardly be seen. Plus, I won’t have to have them tightened and the pain is apparently a lot less which I’m thankful for. My course of Invisalign should take around 15 months as I’m opting for full-case (all the teeth) as opposed to just my ‘smile line’.
My original consultation was great, I had photographs taken of my teeth and had a dental exam where the dentist could tell me exactly the problems with my teeth and what they can do to fix them. I then booked in to get my impressions done for the Invisalign trays, this wasn’t the most pleasant of trips. Apparently I don’t have a very good gag reflex as having the impressions done involves a lot of clingfilm and funky plasticine type goo all up in your mouth and it was making me gag quite a lot! It’s bearable but just an FYI if you’re wondering what goes on.
So, let’s do this teeth. I’ll let you know how I get on!
