How To Find Winter Fitness Motivation

Now the clocks have gone back it can be trickier to motivate yourself to get up early and hit the gym or head to that class after work or uni when you’re tired and all you fancy doing it curling up on the sofa with a box of Milk Tray. I’ve got three tips to help yourself get motivated to keep your fitness going into the winter months.

1. Remind Yourself Why

Do you only enjoy working out in the summer because it’s light outside at 6pm? Probably not. You probably, if you’re like me, enjoy working out because that’s just what you like to do. Heading to the gym is like break time for me, my time to let loose and run around like a kid, get rid of excess energy and see some of my friends. Sometimes I don’t want to go and run outside in the rain when it’s cold but I know when I get home and it’s cosy and warm I’ll appreciate it even more and I’ll know that I’ve achieved something today by hitting the gym! Remind yourself why you work out and how good it makes you feel afterwards and it can make it a bit easier to do even when it’s chilly outside.

2. Treat Yo’self!

It’s winter time now and it’s getting close to Christmas food, mulled wine, chocolates and everything else that comes with the festive season so you’re totally allowed to indulge. Especially if you’re sticking to your gym routine!

3. Kit Out Correctly

It can be even harder to head out to the gym or go for a run when you’re not kitted out correctly. Thin leggings and vests aren’t going to protect you from the elements. Layer up with thicker leggings than your summer ones, these Nike Dri-Fit Tights are such good quality and are really warm. I always have my sports bra, a technical vest and then a third layer of a technical top like this Asics Grey Quarter Zip Top to work out in and then my Superdry padded jacket on top to warm up in if it’s really cold in the gym! Finally, these Nike Flex Run Trainers are the new addition to my workout wardrobe, they’re perfect for running and interval training. I grabbed all of these fitness bits from GO Outdoors who are opening their first store in the Nottingham area on 5th November. Basically, the perfect place to find anything fitness or outdoors related at a steal of a price!
