4 simple steps to a better night’s sleep

The average person spends around a third of their life asleep. And our bodies do amazing things during that time. It allows us to repair, rest, and relax. Well, hopefully anyway. If you are one of the unlucky people that sufferers getting to sleep, then getting a good night’s sleep can seem like a dream. When you don’t sleep properly, it can affect your mood, your productivity, and even your health. So making sure that you sleep well should be a priority as it can affect so many areas of your life. So if you want to be sleeping like a baby in no time at all, here are some tips and tricks.  I hope they help!

1. Set a routine

Are we surprised that babies and children have a routine at bedtime, but we don’t do the same as we get older? It helps them to sleep better and get their body into a set routine so it will help us too. Work out a schedule that works for you, and then try to stick to it, even at weekends. It could be a certain time that you go to bed, having a bath before bed, or giving yourself time to have a warm drink and read a book before nodding off. Whatever you choose, just keep in consistent.

2. Keep a journal

A journal doesn’t have to be an account of all that you have done each day. But having a place to write down some thoughts or feelings, especially if they are stressful feelings, is a good way to offload that stress and leave it there. Doing so before going to bed can help you to sleep better. It also is good if you think of something that you need to make a note of as you know you’ll have forgotten by the morning.

3. Get comfortable bedding

This does seem like a bit of a no-brainer, but how many of us are trying to get a good night’s sleep on a mattress that we hate or with bedding that leaves us feeling too hot? Try out a few mattresses in a store and think about what is comfortable. If you suffer from back pain, then you could try something more specialised like a memory foam mattress. Some research suggests that eating a diet that is rich in magnesium can help you to sleep better. So look for foods with plenty of it, like spinach, chard, and pumpkin seeds. You could even think about getting a magnesium supplement if sleeping is a real struggle for you. Just have something about an hour before bed, and it should make a difference to you.
