Eating my way around Soho; Kaffeine, The Detox Kitchen and Crumbs & Doilies

This was going to be one of my ’24 hours in’ posts just like I’ve done with Leeds, Birmingham and London previously but we were actually only in Soho, London for about 5 hours so this is a little more compact but still jam-packed full of fun and delicious food. We didn’t have chance to stay in any hotels in Soho because we stayed the night before with our friends in beautiful Greenwich after a random but fun night at the O2 watching the Harlem Globetrotters!

First stop, Kaffeine for caffeine. And an amazing brioche bacon and avocado sandwich for breakfast which was something else. Excuse me whilst I just adjust my weekly food shop delivery to be 100% brioche instead of normal bread for my bacon sandwiches going forward. Game changer. I loved Kaffeine, it had that cool Australian/New Zealand brunch vibe that loads of our favourite brunch places in Berlin also had.

After breakfast we checked out Oxford Circus that’s only a stone’s throw away from Soho and found the gigantic (and very quiet) Primark on a Wednesday morning. I wanted to visit Soho square because it sounded cute and pretty but in reality it was a bit of a dry open space with no grass and plenty of builders. Not very Instagrammable but real none the less. We headed for a wander around actual Soho after this and found so many cute corners that just asked to pose in photos. Luke wanted to find Johnny’s Chop Shop – a barbers that he already loves the products from so we stocked up for him on his hair products! All this wandering was thirsty work so Joe & The Juice was calling me.

After some shopping and celeb spotting, I’m talking Stephen ‘John Corbett’ Graham and Hugo from Made in Chelsea, we found an awesome gift and print shop called We Built This City and wanted to buy literally everything in there! I’d definitely recommend this if you like quirky gifts and wall art. I also love to visit the Vans store, Monki and Sweaty Betty when I’ve been in Soho before and they’re still my favourites.

Lunchtime was calling us and we’d spotted The Detox Kitchen on Instagram. We toyed between Honest Burger and this place and the healthy food won out. I wasn’t disappointed. You choose from a selection of proteins and salad and mix and match what you fancy. It was so busy – we were lucky to get a seat outside the teeny shop but it was so yummy and felt really nutritious. I went for Teriyaki salmon, super green salad and an aubergine and olive rice salad which was amazing too. I’d definitely recommend this place if you fancy picking up something healthy on your travels around Soho or Oxford Circus.

Of course, we weren’t going to be 100% healthy because I knew Crumbs and Doilies – the bakery owned by YouTube baking babe Cupcake Jemma was just around the corner and I had to try something from there. We picked up some teeny cupcakes to enjoy there and then and both brought home a brownie. Can confirm – delicious. We finished off our day with another lovely cappuccino at Urban Tea Room, right near The Detox Kitchen and Kingly Court actually, and then headed to check out the amazing H&M Home store that’s between Soho and Regent Street before catching our train home.

It was actually really nice to spend some concentrated time in Soho because I’ve been to Carnaby Street and Liberty before but I’ve never really explored all of the little streets around there. There are so many amazing bars and restaurants that I want to head back and try.
