Pieminister Escape Room & Pie Review

If you know me, you’ll know that I love an activity. You’ll more likely find me doing crazy golf, a bottomless brunch with bingo or more recently, escape rooms instead of on a big night out. I first did an escape room about three years ago and had no idea what to expect but since then I’ve done about 5 or 6 at a range of locations and I am such a fan. They’re so fun to do with friends and family and you really learn how to work together and you’ll definitely have a laugh – I guarantee it! I love the mix of themes and stories that you can get at different escape rooms. There are two at Pieminister, the Demon Barber and Germageddon!

We were invited to try the Germageddon escape room at Pieminister in Nottingham. I really like Pieminister, their pies are top notch and they have a good range of beers and cocktails. They were even 2-4-1 Happy Hour offers on before 7.30pm I believe! Their offer for escape rooms are Escape Room entry and pie and a side for £25 which is great as most escape room places in town charge around £20-25 per person just for entry into the room.

As this was my benchmark I didn’t expect the escape room to be as good as it was. It was still super tricky and really really fun with loads of twists and turns and clever tricks. I honestly though it would be easy as it’s quite cheap compared to other rooms but it really wasn’t. We got out in about 45 minutes but it was just as tough as other rooms I’ve done at more expensive escape rooms in Nottingham city centre. Another awesome thing about the Pieminister escape rooms is that they let you take your drinks in with you so you can sip on your cocktail and work out some codes at the same time!

We rounded off our visit with a pie and a side each and some more drinks. I tried the new Fandango pie which is chicken, chorizo, olive and butterbean. It’s served with a chicken gravy and I had mash too which was lovely. The pie flavour was really nice, I really rate the pies at Pieminister – especially the vegetarian ones actually but this time I wanted to try their new chicken one. What’s your favourite Pieminister pie?

I’d mentioned in a couple of my previous reviews that the pies were great, the brunch was pants and the service generally over the visits that we’d taken to Pieminister was quite disappointing but I’m glad to say that this visit was much, much better. We were warmly welcomed and then taken through to our escape room by a lovely girl who talked us through the room, gave us some tips and was generally great. She also served us for our food and was super attentive, friendly and polite. They also brought us over some free patties to start our meal with as they had lots left over from the day which was a really nice start to our meal. They also brought us over another mac n cheese when we were shocked by how small the portion was for almost £4. This was a lovely touch and definitely made up for the fact that the mac and cheese was so stingy but I would still warn you off from ordering it. We got it as an extra side to share as the Escape Room offer is a pie and one side but were only able to have one mouthful each from the portion and there was 4 of us.

You can check out my other visits to Pieminister if you’re intrigued by the food even more. Check out the brunch, not going to lie this was not my favourite, they should stick to pies for sure. They also have a Sunday offering which is delicious and my first visit blog post from 2016 can be found here.
