Bad lifestyle habits you should end in 2021 and how to reverse the damage
Everyone has habits that they wish they could just kick, whether it is not drinking enough water, picking at your spots, or spending too long staring at your phone screen. Me, me & me on a bad day! Of course, being inside the house all the time means that you might have spent more time than usual picking faults with yourself. What can you do to change your habits up in 2021? These skincare specific ones could leave you glowing if you take the time to kick these habits.
1. Sleep and water
Two of the most important things for your skin and appearance are getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. Drinking enough water helps your body to flush out toxins and gives you healthier skin. Some studies have shown that just drinking 2 cups of water help your skin by increasing the blood flow and giving it a more even tone.
Getting the right amount of sleep also has a massive impact on your skin, along with making sure it’s clean and moisturised helps your skin rebuild collagen and your face muscles relax after a long day.
2. Over exfoliating and picking your skin
Spending too long picking and squeezing spots, while being very therapeutic, is not the best thing for your skin. A spot is like a small bag under the skin that contains bacteria, oil and is inflamed. When you squeeze it you can push this into the surrounding skin which can then get infected.
According to research done by Transform, the cosmetic surgery provider, you shouldn’t exfoliate more than three times a week, and be careful about using multiple types of acids (AHAs/BHAs/PHAs) especially if you’re using them on a daily basis.
3. Improve your diet
Eating too much sugar and refined carbohydrates most found in junk foods, can cause a spike in your blood sugar level which triggers insulin. Too much insulin stimulates oil producing hormones which can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
Making sure to eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables can have a massive impact on your overall health as well your skin. It can help to think of it as adding something in, lots of veggies, rather than taking something away, sugar.
Stopping smoking, or at least massively cutting back as start will have a good impact on your skin. Cigarettes damage your bodies natural collagen and elastin which results in sagging and a dull and dry complexion. Long time smokers also tend to develop wrinkles earlier then a non-smoker.
