The prospect of a full living room revamp is daunting. It can include new flooring, furniture and accessories and can take time, huge amounts of effort and not to mention they can run into mega bucks! If you’ve got limited time and equally limited finances, like me, you’re probably wondering whether it’s possible to update your living room on a budget. The truth is that it’s relatively easy to update your living space without spending a fortune. Here are some tips to help!
Splash Some Paint!
A fresh coat of paint will transform any room. Whether you choose to change the colour completely or incorporate a different coloured feature wall into your transformation, there’s no doubt that adding new paint to the walls is a relatively affordable way to dramatically change your space. I love a feature wall in any room!
Pop Down A Rug
If your budget doesn’t allow for new flooring, a new rug is a small investment that can make a big difference to a room. In my experience, the Urban Outfitters sale is always awesome for this. Layering a rug over a carpet or laminate flooring can re-define the space and change how a room feels. Is your current floor covering too dark? Try a light coloured rug. Add texture with a deep pile rug, or use a colourful rug to delineate an area of the room.
Update Your Furniture
While I’m not suggesting that you replace all your living room furniture, it’s amazing what a change of one item can do. Take a look at vintage sales and hunt down a classic chair or sideboard that can be renovated to match or contrast with your existing decor. My favourite piece is my coffee table which was £14 from an antique fair! Scour second hand shops for pre-loved pieces or alternatively, why not take a look at a show home furniture sale? You’ll find quality new pieces at knockdown prices that could really add a whole new dimension to your room.
Add Some Finishing Touches.
Are you sick of looking at your tired sofa but can’t afford a new one? New throws and cushions can change their look in an instant. Don’t make them too matchy-matchy, but invest in a range of sizes, styles and textures to give a modern look. Add some new artwork to your room, or a new vase or accessory to give that finishing touch.

De-Clutter
I’ve left this till last, as it’s a technique that’s hugely effective but doesn’t actually cost anything. This is my favourite thing to do when I feel like my rooms need a revamp. Start the process by discarding things that you don’t use or you feel are cluttering up the area. Often, by simply trimming down the amount of items in a room, you can change the whole look of the space by giving it a more calming and minimal effect. Finish off your de-cluttering by giving the entire living room a thorough clean!
