Weekend-Rut Busting Ideas

As much as we all look forward to the weekend, sometimes we can fall into a rut of doing the same thing every time. I know I’m guilty of just thinking the weekends are for cleaning the house, getting washing done and going food shopping. We’ve been trying to make our weekends a bit more exciting recently by trying some new things! Here’s 8 things you can do to mix up your weekend.

Go For A Walk
Check out local walks in your area or head to a stately home and walk around the grounds. We tried the ‘Navvy’s Walk’ starting from Borrowash in Derbyshire last weekend and got seriously lost – so make sure you’ve got a map!

Try A New Sport
Grab some cheap racquets and hit a tennis, badminton or squash courts! Or, if you’re usually a gym goer or a runner, try a new gym class or find your nearest rock climbing wall.

Get Into A Series
Netflix, Now TV and Sky are the best places to get stuck into a new series, especially in the winter. Grab some snacks and your snuggle partner and get watching. I’d recommend Modern Family, Narcos, Sons of Anarchy and Prison Break!

Create A New Recipe
Or even just try a new one! You never know what you might come up with. Check out Pinterest and Instagram for loads of fresh ideas. My favourite food-spo Instas are @gizzierskine and @meatballers.

Find A New Favourite Coffee Shop
We’re always on the hunt for new places to have lunch and have coffee and luckily in Nottingham there’s always a new independent cafe opening up. We’re heading to the Kitty Cafe this weekend, I can’t wait to report back! Nottingham-wise, my top picks for coffee are 200 Degrees, Pudding Pantry and Copper.

Visit An Art Gallery/Installation
There are tonnes of free art galleries and museums around, our local is the Nottingham Contemporary. When we travelled to Weston-Super-Mare for Banksy’s Dismaland we had an amazing day. It’s always nice to do and see something different and interesting.

Treat Yourselves
Check out Wowcher and other voucher sites for cheap spa days and beauty treatments and just have a day to relax.

Head To A Gig
We love a good gig and luckily for us, again, Nottingham has Rock City and Rescue Rooms as great little venues. We’re heading to see Don Broco in December and there’s always an open mic night to head to in your local town!
