The Weekend Files: Lakeside Yoga

I’m partnering with Coca-ColaGreat Britain on this post and their awesome ParkLives initiative. For a third year, more than 25 parks across Nottingham will be hosting hundreds of free activity sessions to get us fit for summer. From Pilates to Nordic Walking and even paddle board (SUP) Yoga there is literally something for everyone of every ability – even buggy fitness for all those mamas out there.

“The programme has been devised following consultation with local communities within the city, and will see new activities such as parkour, skateboarding and even Quidditch feature on the timetable this spring and summer.Adrenaline-seekers will also get their thrills as canoe rafting and high ropes sessions launch at Colwick Country Park.”

I headed down Colwick Country Park for Lakeside Yoga this weekend. Yoga is my favourite at the moment, I just find that it really chills me out and I get some exercise in without getting all crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I love a sweaty HIIT workout but nothing beats an hour on the mat. I’ve never done yoga outside, however, so this was new! Find the free lakeside yoga sessions here if you’re interested in some Sunday chills!

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council said: “Thousands of local residents will benefit from ParkLives again this year. In 2016, we had more than 17,000 attendances in ParkLives sessions.

Whether it’s learning some Pilates skills, enjoying a guided walk, or getting adventurous and trying your hand at canoe rafting – there’s truly something for everyone. ParkLives is great fun, we see a lot of friendship groups forming and plenty of smiling faces after each session, but it also plays a serious role in helping to improve the wellbeing of people in our city.”
