2017 Fitness Changes & Goals

Slightly late on the ol’ New Year’s Resolutions but I’m not really a resolution’s type of gal, I’m more of a have an idea and try your best person. I feel like if I set a proper resolution, I’m more than likely going to pack it in but if I try and change my lifestyle a little bit at a time, it’s a touch easier to stay on track.

A Fitness Change

In my 2016 Fitness Goals blog post I chatted all about CrossFit which I still love and will almost definitely go back to but I’ve given a break for a little while. I’ve not left and I’ve not stopped my membership, I just need a little time away to re-focus and try some new things. CrossFit is very different because it’s programmed and everyone does the same workout, this means it’s super varied and you can just walk into a class, sweat it out and walk out again. No planning needed. I loved this at the beginning but I was starting to feel a little loss of control and wanted to be able to pick and choose what I was doing a little more.

The location of our CrossFit gym is also a little awkward for me to get to on time as I have to leave work bang on shutting up shop which is sometimes not possible. I’ve joined a gym a stone’s throw away from my flat and I’ve already found that I’ve gone more times a week than I was with CrossFit as it’s just more convenient. I’ll definitely head back to the box in the summer because I really enjoy the interval sessions and crazy workouts when it’s sunny outside! I’m enjoying the wide range of classes at my new gym like spinning and weekly yoga and being able to do a proper weights session if I fancy it too. 2017 is going to be the year of mixing it up for me! Plus, another bonus is that I get to train with my favourite person again and we’re good at dragging each other out of bed when the other’s trying to be lazy!

Body Goals

Nope, not #bodygoals on some random girls’ photo on Instagram who’s posing all weird and fake. Actual body goals. I’ve always wanted to work on my legs, like all girls do, but CrossFit workouts that are just programmed for everyone were never going to target those areas exactly how I wanted to. I’m now doing a dedicated legs weight session a week to ensure I’m actually working towards something I want to improve so I’m pleased with this.

The 80kg Deadlift

This might not seem a lot, I know so many people are in the 100 club but for me, 80kg is my target. I’ve been stuck at 70kg for so long and something needs to change soon! I think I did 72.5kg at the beginning of March in 2016 but I’ll be honest, I’ve not tried since! Hopefully I can boost that weight up soon. If anyone has any deadlift tips and tricks for increasing lifts, please let me know.

How?

So, there are only a couple of specific fitness goals I’m working towards this year but how am I going to get there? I’ve set myself up a new training plan and I’m booking myself onto classes as soon they come onto the gym website. I’m making sure I’ve got my weights session planned in weekly, moving it around to a day that suits me. I’m not a regimented person when it comes to the days I have to do things because life is life and it moves itself about all the time!

Lastly, I love a bit of new sportswear to get me in the motivation mood and I’m kind of obessed with these two pieces which are fab for my quick jog to the gym or if I’m doing an outdoor bootcamp or run. The Nike Advance 15 Cape and Nike Monochrome Print Leggings are right up my street. I’ve always been a monochrome lover and these leggings are seriously cool, don’t you think?
