Finally, a proper Mexican restaurant has planted itself in Nottingham. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. I know we have Las Iguanas (which isn’t technically Mexican FYI) and Barburrito and Tortilla but these guys basically serve beans and rice in a wrap for lunch. So, it’s safe to say there was a Mexican restaurant shaped hole in my heart. Now it’s been filled! Say hey to El Capo, based in Hockley, down Broadway, where The Rum House used to be, this Mexican Cantina is everything I’ve been waiting for.
How to stay social in 2017
It can be so easy to get the ‘busy bug’ as I call it and forget to actually socialise with your favourite people. Everyone’s lives are manic and it can be so difficult to find a date that everyone can get together. Or, worst case scenario – we end up cancelling because we’re too tired, right? This is such a bad habit of nowadays I think! Because we catch up over social media, we can sometimes think that we know what’s happening in our friends’ lives. But, we totally don’t. I decided to round up my favourites and start autumn the Swedish way and have a little dinner party with a few of our besties to get a little more social.
24 hours in London
Work/life balance has been a bit crazy recently but it definitely has some really great perks. I’ve been having to travel to London a few times a week recently and luckily, one of these trips happened to fall on a Friday which was super close to one of my oldest friends’ birthdays so I stopped for the weekend and for her birthday brunch!
3 cookbooks perfect for cosy recipes
I love to cook but I think a lot of people are surprised when I say this. Not sure why, maybe I just don’t look like someone who loves to cook? Baking is another thing entirely and I pretty much have only 2 recipes that I can bake but I like to think I’m *quite* a good cook. Nothing ever looks Masterchef refined but I reckon most stuff tastes pretty good. Here are three of my fave cosy cookbooks that I’ve got back out or recently picked up because autumn is the perfect time for comforting recipes.
How to be #likealocal in Nottingham in 48 hours
Notts has got a lot of things associated with it, from Robin Hood to lace and mr Boots himself (all hail the king of highstreet beauty, am I right?) to crazy things like calling people duck and bacon rolls cobs. It is a cob, by the way. I’m 100% a Nottingham girl now and a cob shop is one of the best inventions ever – hands down.
Learning to cook Thai food
Last week I headed to Thaikhun at Intu Victoria Centre in Nottingham with a bunch of some other lovely bloggers and we were treated to a Thai cooking class. I was so excited about this event, hence why I’m writing about it! I don’t usually write up a lot of events but this one was really well done and super enjoyable.
The weekend files; brunch and a new style trial
Having a free Saturday meant four things had to happen. A lie in, brunch with my girl Robyn, shopping and some outfit snapping. A.K.A the best weekend activities.
Where we went
You’ll have seen me post about The Pudding Pantry before. It’s a little gem of Nottingham city centre that do epic cakes and tasty brunch. We both went for the classic scrambled eggs with a few cheeky sides. I spotted that PP have started doing their own ice cream and they have a full on truck inside with incredible flavours such as gin & tonic. If it wasn’t 10am we definitely would have grabbed a scoop.
Blooming Great Jammie Dodger Blondies
Raising money for different charities is something that I love to do. I like to sponsor everyone I can that I know that run crazy races, do Tough Mudders and everything else under the sun! I ran a Marathon in A Month for the British Heart Foundation last September and really enjoyed it. I love doing something with a purpose so when I heard about the Blooming Great Tea Party I was in!
Where To Drink Coffee In Leeds: Mrs Atha’s
Located just around the corner from Trinity Leeds Mrs Atha’s is the absolute perfect place to cosy up with a coffee in the winter and hide from the rain or bask outside in the sunshine with an iced latte and a gorgeous cake in the summer time. Mrs Atha’s is an all year round, seriously cool, amazingly creative, mega tasty coffee shop smack bang in the centre of Leeds and you need to go there next time you’re in town.
To Ramen Or Not To Ramen
We headed down to Wagamama at the Cornerhouse, Nottingham on a recent Friday evening. All ready and raring to try out some of their dishes that are either new or refreshed for the summer! I’m a huge Wagamama fan anyway so I jumped at the chance of a date night at one of my most loved places to eat. I try to have something new every time I go to Wagamama because there’s so much choice.
