Finally, a proper Mexican restaurant has planted itself in Nottingham. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. I know we have Las Iguanas (which isn’t technically Mexican FYI) and Barburrito and Tortilla but these guys basically serve beans and rice in a wrap for lunch. So, it’s safe to say there was a Mexican restaurant shaped hole in my heart. Now it’s been filled! Say hey to El Capo, based in Hockley, down Broadway, where The Rum House used to be, this Mexican Cantina is everything I’ve been waiting for.
I ordered the DIY taco board (I couldn’t get a good photo though, I’m sorry! You’ll have to go and try it for yourself…) and it came with three fillings and beans and guac. These are huge so I’d say order one between two and some sides and you’ll be set. I had a kale, mushroom and Manchego filling which was the absolute dream, a pulled chicken filling which was a teeny bit dry and the Pango white fish in a crispy crumb (these were incredible.) If you’re a taco queen like myself and love you some Mexican grub then check out the El Capo Cantina. The quesadillas looked insane and the nachos were huge too! (This was from me spying on another table, obviously.)
These are the sliders, just, so’s you know.
These are the insanely generous portion of chips & dips! One of the things I really noticed about El Capo was that the portion sizes were incredible. So big and great value.
They also serve loads of great beers such as Sierra Nevada pale ale and my newest favourite, Big Wave!
Fried chicken, in a Mexican restaurant? Trust me, these are delicious. So crispy and served in a tangy and sweet tomato sauce. A perfect starter to share before some taco time.
Cute decor, not too much and a jazzy bar. Pretty sweet. My new date night destination.
