On Wednesday morning an email popped into my inbox inviting me to the opening press night of Red’s True Barbecue in Nottingham on Thursday evening. To say I was excited would be an understatement. We’ve been hot on this place’s heels for months now, ever since we saw the signs going up for a new barbecue establishment in the centre of town! I hadn’t heard of Red’s before but Luke had assured me that it’s awesome as they already have places in Leeds and Manchester and we started social media stalking them like nothing else!
We headed down on Thursday evening and were greeted with glasses of Prosecco and super friendly staff. The whole atmosphere of Red’s was so cool, it was comfortable, all red lights and comfy chairs and natural woods. It can’t really be described, but it’s definitely what all other BBQ restaurants want to be! We were sat down and everything was explained to us by our host, James, who was awesome. We were served a platter of starters as a taster which included some amazing chicken wings (massive and probably the best I’ve ever tasted in my life!) and some mac & cheese balls which are obviously mac & cheese but coated in a nacho crumb and deep fried. There was also some crazy bacon wrapped jalepenos and some seriously saucy beef. It was a pretty awesome start to our time there and we settled down with a Brooklyn lager each and studied the menu which are bound in leather like actual bibles. Major.
I settled for the Juicy Lucifer burger which is a cheese and jalepeno stuffed patty with more cheese, bacon, all the burger trimmings and their legendary ‘dirty sauce’. I had standard skin-on fries and the world’s biggest onion ring, I mean look how big that is! Luke went for the Pit Burger which was two patties, beef brisket, pulled pork, streaky bacon, pickles, mustard bbq sauce and cheese. He also went for sweet potato fries which we mega tasty. The sauces were on a whole other level, the range was amazing. Let’s just say that Red’s is the best barbecue/low n slow/burger joint ever and it will give you the biggest food baby you’ll ever have but it’s literally so tasty you won’t regret it!
