I love a good mini-break and recently we explored Oxford for the weekend. We were really lucky with the weather and spent Saturday strolling around the city centre taking in the sights and eating everything in sight. I’d definitely recommend an ice cream from G&Ds, the Millionaire Shortbread flavour is amazing!
We also discovered Quarter Horse Coffee which was a super cute cafe on the outskirts of the city, I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re into your coffee like we are.
After our day of exploring, we headed to our hotel which was actually 6 miles out of Oxford, nearer to Abingdon. A great place to be if you want to explore the outskirts of Oxford as well as the main city centre. Abingdon has some amazing pubs for food as we discovered in our research of the area. We were upgraded to a four poster suite which was really nice, the bed was lovely as you can see from the photographs. Our hotel room was well stocked with wine, tea, coffee and soft drinks which was also a really nice surprise, a difference from the usual hotel room stocks.
We had a huge shower as well as a fab bath which was so deep and the hotel had supplied Clarins bath products which again was a really welcome surprise. The bathroom was great as it also had double sinks, we got used to that really quickly!
We had dinner at the hotel before heading out for some drinks and I had this lovely Goats Cheese & Red Onion risotto served with garlic bread and a glass of rose, Luke enjoyed the Confit Duck Leg with Rosti Potatoes and veg which also looked super yummy. Breakfast on Sunday morning was your classic hotel buffet but it was really tasty, I took advantage of pastries because they’re definitely my favourite bit of a Continental breakfast. A massive thanks to the Oxford Abingdon Hotel for putting us up, we had a lovely stay!
