When spring rolls around it can take a little time to re-adjust from the chilly winter months but recently I’ve been trying to embrace change a little easier and be a bit more chilled. This being said, I’ve just had the most chilled weekend ever. It was really slow paced and I enjoyed not rushing out of the house at 8am to fit in a gym session and not planning my meals too meticulously. Chilled out is all good. I’ve also been absolutely loving this amazing weather we’ve been treated to for a couple of days so I took the chance to celebrate the first moments of spring with a little life update. Here are my three tips to get yourself in the spring mood!
In the middle of winter, there’s nothing better than walking into a warm and welcoming bar and being handed a Cuba Libre cocktail. This is basically a Cuban Bacardi & Coke, it’s so refreshing and fruity – the perfect drink to take you away from rainy Nottingham on a Tuesday evening. Revolucion de Cuba are releasing their brand new Cantina (menu, to you & me!) and it’s 100% latin and Cuban inspired, we couldn’t wait to try it.
As Valentine’s Day is usually overlooked in our household due to my birthday being the day after we decided to have our Friday night treat as a bit of a Valentine’s by kicking up dinner a notch or two. We eat well but rarely will treat ourselves to something like a steak. I created this steak salad with crispy potatoes, artichokes and pine nut salad dressing from celebrity chef Valentine Warner‘s Aphrodisiac Menu For Two that he’s created specifically for Valentine’s Day which is inspired by ‘robust, flavoursome food and aphrodisiac inspired ingredients’.
Fancy living on 500 calories a day? Nope, me neither but I’ve seen a tonne of articles recently claiming to help people on the 5:2 diet get on well with their fasting days where they only eat 500 calories. Some of these articles are saying that you should start your day with 40g of porridge oats or some Belvita Breakfast biscuits and it’s just not sustainable, nor is it going to keep the person full. They’re also saying to blow at least half of the calories in the first meal of the day. Some of these meal plans don’t even have a lunch included but, I don’t know about you, I wouldn’t be able to last from breakfast until dinner on some sugary breakfast biscuits.

I’m always wary of ‘opening nights’ as usually they’re not actually as good as the restaurant or bar would be as they were actually operating in my opinion. I’ve been to my fair share of press nights that have been a disappointment where you leave hungry and having only had one watery cocktail. Revolucion De Cuba has completely reincarnated my enthusiasm for press events after their event this week. Pretty damn awesome!
Mello is the newest juice on the scene, it’s 100% raw and natural and is apparently the UK’s ‘first raw melon juice‘ and it’s taken the almost-saturated juice market by storm. You can even buy it on Ocado now! What makes Mello different to all of the juices though? It doesn’t use traditional juicing methods like heat pasteurising as the founder, Rose Aldean believes that this ‘damages the taste and health benefits’. Mello is cold pressed by a process called High Pressure Processing (HPP) which gives it it’s completely clean taste. Unlike other juices on the market which are often full of additives, it’s literally all fruit juice. The sugar content is apparently less than the industry’s favourite green juice and another plus is that one small bottle includes 45% of your RDA of Vitamin A & C! It’s rehydrating, repairing and replenishing for your body and your skin.
Today I’m reviewing a little place that I’ve wanted to go for a while now as I’ve always loved the way that it looked and the branding and the general feel of the place looked great so at the weekend I ventured along with the intention of doing a little review to see if it was up to scratch to recommend on next week’s Grazia regional blogger feature – #WhatToDoThisWeek, where I give people the heads up about somewhere fab to go in Nottingham for the coming week.
